Renewable Energy

By the end of 2009, approximately 30 percent of the total energy consumed in Hanesbrands facilities around the world came from renewable fuel sources, including geothermal energy, solar power, hydroelectric power, and biomass.
Hanesbrands is committed to maintaining this high percentage of renewable energy usage, which we have increased from a 21 percent share in early 2007.
- Both of our El Salvador manufacturing facilities, which are among the company’s largest, use geothermal energy drawn from volcanic lava for 100 percent of their electricity requirements.
- Our fabric textiles facility in the Dominican Republic now uses energy generated from biomass and hydroelectric sources, which will reduce its carbon footprint by 95 percent.
- Buildings at our North Carolina headquarters use solar photovoltaic cells to generate electricity and use a solar thermal system to heat all of the hot water needed in our cafeteria.
We believe we can do even more. We are exploring additional uses of photovoltaics, biomass, and other renewable energy options at facilities around the world.
